1 2 3 4 5 Lake Martin Visitor’s Information Center

In 2005, as part of the curriculum at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, I produced a schematic design solution for a new visitor’s center on the banks of Lake Martin in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.

Lake Martin is a wildlife sanctuary for migratory birds. The lake is controlled by pumps to preserve the hunting and fishing. Ironically, if the current events continue, the lake will lose much of its life... the Cypress trees that attract the wildlife and protect the fish require the natural recession of the water to thrive.

Lake Martin as it exists is an approximation of an ideal nature that does not exist. It is also one of the most photographed locations in Louisiana. It is truly an artificial image.
