The thesis work, Voyeuristic Architecture: An Exploration in Image, Perception,
and Form, focused on the relationship between image and architecture. The intent was to gain a better understanding of architecture’s role to represent.

The premise of the design was to create form based on the stereotypes of New Orleans that are evident in the culture of tourism. The design was to act as a billboard that embodied the characteristics of tourism in New Orleans. The architectural design investigation, when put in context, provided a counterpoint of New Orleans’ perceived reality to its actuality.

The final form was not typical of New Orleans’ actual conditions and was more akin to its social and stereotypical image. The product called to attention many of the shortcomings of prescribed historic architecture and provided a controversial alternative to dealing with stereotypes of place. gallery KMD 401 501 E+D+R HOK Craft Thesis Sketch Links Resume’ Creative Commons Copyright 2006
